Telling Stories With Purpose
Tomé Media was founded by Jaiksana Soro, a freelance photographer, videographer, and filmmaker based in the Rhino Camp refugee settlement in Uganda. Having experienced displacement twice, Jaiksana wanted to share his story and the stories of others in the camp. Armed with nothing but a smartphone, he set out to document life around him. He was later gifted a Nikon D3200 by Stephen Kovats, a Canadian based in Germany whom he had met in South Sudan. Stephen had heard his story, and this gift would mark Jaiksana's official entry into professional filmmaking.
Learning to shoot with limited gear taught Jaiksana how to build ambitious projects relying entirely on the power of narrative. Today, even with access to state-of-the-art equipment, that same resourcefulness defines his style. Even after moving into the nonprofit space, where he gained access to state-of-the-art equipment, his humble foundation of genuine storytelling, authentic activations, and barrier-breaking creativity helped his work consistently stand out.
